You have probably seen those wacky commercials of the guy in the money suit that is hawking his newest book on how to find free government grants, for anything from going back to school to owning your own business. But did you actually buy into his hype? Well, if you did not then you should have because he is not wrong. He just compiled the information for you in one book. The information is still out there if you know where and what to look for, just in case you want to get your hands on some of the stuff.

Federal government grants are awarded for a variety of reasons. Probably the number one example is the Pell Grant given to people entering into college to help offset the cost of tuition, books, and room and board. They are able to do this by filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (the FAFSA). The student fills out the FAFSA using his or her personal information, such as social security number, address and last year's tax return and receives a Student Aid Report. The SAR will show how much money the person is able to get, along with the disbursement date. Any questions can usually be answered by the college's financial aid office.

Free government grants also exist for people who want to own their own business. This type of grant does take some planning, a lot of paperwork and some leg work. It is not the easiest way to get start-up capital but it is a way. Most grants require a written proposal of what the grant money will be used for, along with a detailed business plan. If you do not have experience with either of these, then you can always consider hiring or consulting with someone who does know how to write a business plan and proposal.

You do not have to purchase Matthew Lesko's book on how to get free government grants but it does put all of the information right at your finger tips. The information is not proprietary and is available to anyone who takes the time to look. Your small business association in your city can help you find the same information and may be able to give you tips on how to go about getting your free, government grant money.

Angel Investing: Matching Startup Funds with Startup Companies--A Guide for Entrepreneurs and Individual Investors

For the entrepreneur, angel investment is one of the best ways to secure the funding needed to transform a great idea into a competitive venture. For the investor, angel investing holds the promise of enormous financial returns. In fact, many successful companies were funded by angels-companies like Cisco, AOL, and Amazon.com. Some of our top business leaders have cashed out to become angels--leaders like Apple's John Sculley, Netscape's Jim Barksdale, and Microsoft's Paul Allen. Indeed, understanding angel investing is crucial for every entrepreneur and investor in today's marketplace. Angel Investing offers the first authoritative look at this emerging form of financing, complete with stories of the investors and companies that have led the way. It is also the only comprehensive guide for the entrepreneur seeking capital and the private investor looking for a better return on investments of $100,000 or more. Written by two veteran investors, Angel Investing is based on years of research, hands-on experience, and in-depth interviews with business angels, venture capitalists, and entrepreneurs. It gives readers an unprecedented overview of how business angels compare with their better-known counterparts, venture capitalists, covering everything from investment motivations to exit strategies. It provides the resources entrepreneurs need to secure angel investment for their growing companies. And it shows would-be angels how to buy into small firms with strong growth potential. Entrepreneurs will learn what angel investors look for in a startup, how to pitch their company successfully, and how to tap the billions of dollars that business angels invest in entrepreneurial firms each year. Would-be angels will learn how to connect with startups, what criteria to look for before committing their capital, and how to make their first investment in an entrepreneurial firm.
