When dealing with a freight shipping company, it is important to know exactly what a cargo agent is and what they do. If you don't know, then you should find out, because any person interested in the air cargo industry should know about cargo agents.

So what do cargo agents do? It's simple. A cargo agent tracks and arranges incoming and outgoing freight or cargo for trains, airline companies, trucking companies, and also for shipping docks. They determine the routes that the freight should take, and they prepare all the shipping documents. A cargo agent takes orders from customers and arranges for the pickup of freight or cargo for delivery to loading platforms, and they also can keep records of the cargo, such as the amount, type, weight and dimensions. They keep a tally of missing items, record the condition of damaged items, and document any excess supplies. A cargo agent also deals with many other miscellaneous tasks. A typical cargo agent can make anywhere from $20,700 to $54,480 per year, with the average wage being between $25,720 and $43,250. An agent usually receives the same benefits as most other workers, and the company usually pays for uniforms if they are required. Starting a career as a cargo agent can be great for people looking to find a good job without a post-secondary education, because many companies do not require their agents to have a degree.

This is basically the job of cargo agents in a nutshell. Some agents work on the side of a freight shipping company, and some agents work more for the companies that make the products to transport. Regardless of who they really work for, being a cargo agent can be quite interesting, and can give a level of fun to a job, especially if the agent really likes planes and air cargo companies.
