The world of entrepreneurship, which once revolved around male-dominated circles, has now opened up to provide a far more equitable level-playing field for both men and women, thanks to the advance of modern technologies like the Internet.
Sadly, however, there are still too few funding resources and help groups for women entrepreneurs. Good funding resources are crucial, especially for women who are just starting out with business. These are rare indeed and that is why women mostly tend to resort to using their own credit cards, family loans and assistance from friends when starting their own businesses.
Funding a business is only one of the many problems experienced among women entrepreneurs. Research into entrepreneurial opportunities for women reveal that other areas where women experience challenges are in building websites, juggling with research and writing press releases to promote their enterprise. And on top of it all, there is also the normal challenges of selling their products or services and building relationships with new and existing clients. Though all this may sound difficult, it is surely worth the time and effort for a woman who has set her heart on becoming a successful entrepreneur. After all, it is her own business she is building.

If you are an aspiring woman entrepreneur and you are interested in learning more about the process of obtaining a business grant, the first thing you must do is see whether or not you would indeed qualify for receiving a grant.

You are a woman.

At the federal level, for example, entrepreneurial women can undergo a self-certification process and apply for the Central Contracting Registry database from which many government and private contractors gather to search for small business.

Also, because of their own commitment to provide diversified services and opportunities, many large corporations now offer grants for women entrepreneurs. Several of these large companies were, in fact, mandated by the federal government to create further services to improve their employment base and to create equal allocations for small business owners.
Be warned, however, that the application process for grants may be time consuming and quite demanding. Often, there could be a specific time or waiting periods with regards to the offering or processing of grants for women entrepreneurs. And sometimes, bureaucracies may even make you wait for several months before your certification is released.
Also, keep in mind that many grants screen applicants through interviews, so anticipate this and prepare yourself for having to answer questions about your business by creating a solid business plan.
Finally, keep in mind that grants for women entrepreneurs are meant to help you get that break you're looking for and not to supply you with unlimited meal vouchers. So be on your guard. Many agencies and grant providers may even decide to cut off their services without providing you an explanation.

Just remember to be careful and tactful when approaching an existing employer, or you might find yourself facing resignation or losing your job. This path might be risky but don't be too afraid to explore this option further. Most former employers would reasonably consider outsourcing the work to their previous workers and thus indirectly help them start up their own businesses.
