Customer service can make the difference between success and failure for any type of business venture ...
In order to provide the best customer service it is important to know the answer to the question 'what is customer service'. It can make the difference between success and failure for any type of business venture.
Customer service is the interaction you and your staff have with your customers. However, to fully understand this point, you must identify your customers. An error frequently made in this process is thinking that customers are only those clients who purchase your products or services. This is an incorrect view that will impact your business negatively. Sure, clients who pay for products and services are customers but they are not the only ones.
Customers that require customer service include just about everyone you encounter from fellow team members to sales prospects. If one of your assignments is to provide another staff member with a report, then that staff member is your customer and deserves the same level of customer service that someone purchasing a product or service would receive.
A point that is often missed is that people providing services and products to your business are also your customers. While you may think of them as suppliers and providers, you should change that mindset to think of them as your customers. Why? These people who come into contact with your business leave with an impression of your company that can be passed along to other potential clients. Also, because you pay these providers, you have a customer relationship with them in that they deserve customer service of the same level as anyone else.
Customer service should not simply meet the minimal needs of a client or customer. The goal should be to delight that customer so that they will remember the contact as exceptionally pleasant and look forward to the next opportunity to interact with your business.
When considering customer service, remember that any person who has a great experience with your business will potentially tell one or two people about the experience, giving you great word of mouth advertising. However, any person that has a negative experience with your company will also certainly tell a dozen people. People tend to share the negative more often than the positive experiences in their lives. While it may seem unfair, it is still a fact of doing business. This makes it very important to provide customer service, even when dealing with difficult people, that makes the people remember you in a positive light and share only good information about your operation.
What is customer service? It is, in reality, every action your and your staff members take in every day business operations. View every interaction with everyone in your business life as a customer and provide the level of customer service that you would desire and your business will thrive.
